1. Are you accepting new patients?
Currently, we are accepting new patients for both preganacy care as well as general women's health care.
2. Do you take insurance? Medicaid?
We accept most insurance policies. We also accept Colorado and New Mexico Medicaid. We recommend that you call your insurance provider and check to see that Southwest Midwives is on their provider list.
3. Where are you located?
We are in the new Mercy
Regional Medical Center at the Medical Plaza. This is a new location
just off of Hwy 160 heading towards Bayfield. To see this location

4. I just found out that I am pregnant, what should I do?
There are several important
factors to remember if you've just found out that you are pregnant.
Avoid smoking, drinking alcoholic beverages, and sitting
in hot tubs and hot springs. Begin taking prenatal vitamins
and do not take any medication without consulting your care provider.
Eat plenty of nutritious foods and try to comsume 2-3 quarts
of water per day. Finally, we recommend calling to schedule
your first OB visit.
5. Can I come to Southwest Midwives for my annual exams and pap smears? What about birth control?
Yes, at Southwest Midwives we care for all women! You may come to us for your birth control needs, annual exams and check ups, as well as other women's health concerns.
6. Can the Certified Nurse Midwives at Southwest Midwives prescribe medication?
Yes, our CNMs have the authority to prescribe any medication needed.
7. Do the midwives at Southwest Midwives attend water births?
Yes, currently we
are one of the only providers participating in water
birthing at Mercy Medical Center, where all of our

8. What are some safe herbal remedies and OTC remedies during pregnancy?
Always check with your health care provider for a list of safe herbs and medications.
9. Can I birth with Southwest Midwives if I've had a previous Ceserean birth?
Currently, the guidelines recommend that a woman
is a candidate for a VBAC (vaginal birth after ceserean)
if she has had one Ceserean section. We support VBAC and
also attend these births.
